Autobiography
My name is Vaite Mahuru; I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 9, 1998. My parents were both born and raised in Tahiti. They moved to Utah when my sister was a few months old and have been living here ever since. I am the middle child of the family, I have an older sister and a younger brother. Outside of school; I do Polynesian dancing, I've been dancing for 13 years now. I have my own dance group called Tiare Here, which means lovely flower(s). I am the lead and I am in charge of choreography and just basically running the dance group. So far I have 8 dancers and 6 musicians. One of the musicians is my dad so he helps me a lot with coming up with new ideas, he is definitely my role model. I like to play sports as well, my favorite sports would have to be volleyball and basketball. During the summer, I work with Granite School District; I serve students free lunch, and clean up at the park; and I get paid. I have been doing it since 8th grade year.
Before starting my 9th grade year, I was already accepted into AMES because my older sister was already admitted. I didn't really enjoy AMES my freshman year because it was a new school to me, which meant different teachers, and meeting new friends. I had met a lot of nice teachers and students later throughout the years at AMES. Throughout the years of high school, I started to realize that this was the right decision; i don't regret coming to this school. AMES has helped me throughout the years, and has prepared me for my future plans. Both of my siblings attend/attended AMES; and since I'm also an older sibling I want to show a good example towards my younger brother and so that he can follow by my examples.
